Green management for protection of Nature park Rusenski Lom and Nature park Comana

The main objective of the project is to improve the sustainable use of natural heritage and resources and cultural heritage for Nature Park Rusenski Lom and Comana.

508,730.23 euro, out of which 432,420.68 euro ERDF

Target at the half of the implementation period: 105,000 euro for LB and 56,000 euro for B2

How is it going to happen?

  • Elaboration of GIS for 2 National Parks (NPs) and Natura 2000 sites in the area of eco corridor Comana-Lomovete
  • Strategical plannning activities in the area of eco corridor Comana-Lomovete
  • Ecosystem cross border awareness and connectivity between the 2 NP and Natura 2000 sites

What will be the results (what’s the contribution to the Programme)?

Programme outputs: 2 common strategies, policies or management plans for valorising (including raising awareness) the cultural and natural heritage through its restoration and promotion for sustainable economic uses

Programme results: 1000 tourist overnights in the CBC region and 4 NATURA 2000 sites from the cross-border area with coordinated management tools

Project status

The project is finalized.

The project implementation team organized their start press conferences as well as the print of roll-up banners for presenting and promoting the "Green management" project.

Both of the partners have purchased all the necessary equipment as agreed in the application form: two vehicles for medium to hard ground access (SUV), one for each partner, an Notebook device for GIS work and file storage for the LB, archive case for the LP, an wildlife camera device to video captures with accessories for B2.

The service for elaboration of GIS of Nature Park Rusenski Lom for both beneficiaries is now available for public and private needs on the ГИС/GIS section of the Directorate's website (https://rusenski-lom.bg/).

The service for Management plan(MP) on behalf of LB is at its end and a preliminary version is now available on the Web site of Rusenski Lom Nature Park in section Documents. After the last public discussion, the fourth at number, for the elaboration of the plan, the LP accepted MP II from the contractor and introduced it for further revision to the MOEW (Bulgarian Ministry of Environment and Waters) and is waiting for the assessment of the Ministry and after that the Management plan adoption.

On behalf of B2, a public meeting was organized with local stakeholders in the Comana Natural Park on 21.09.2020. The public discussion with stakeholders included a presentation of the management measures proposed for the species Canis Aureus (Jackal), included in the Action Plan. Also the "Inventory study - detailed mapping of the jackal population and non-invasive plant species, as well as habitats of community interest, in the context of species mobility, in the Comana Natural Park” was finalized on 1st October 2020 according to the contractual provisions.

The services related to the Ecosystem awareness and connectivity between Rusenski Lom Nature Park and Comana Nature Park and Natura 2000 sites and study of alien and invasive species were finalized by both beneficiaries in October. The activity was based on an existing Proposal for Joint Management Plan for the cross-border corridor Comana and Lomovete, an action plan for the jackal (Canis aureus) from the Comana Natural Park and the protected natural areas with which it overlaps and is currently ongoing, a revised visit strategy of the Comana Natural Park and a Report for the Comana Natural Park which will include the main information and results obtained from the studies.
