How is it going to happen?                        

  • acquisition of equipment and services;
  • rehabilitation of the piers of the passenger terminal Ruse center and improving the navigation conditions of the three berths;
  • construction of a quay in Giurgiu Municipality;
  • measures for joint strategy planning in CBC region.

What will be the results (what’s the contribution to the Programme)?

Programme outputs: 8 km of improved inland waterway, 1 joint strategy for improvement of safety navigation on the Lower Danube

Programme results: 1.83% of the RO-BG CBC Danube length where safety of the navigation has been improved by joint actions

Project status (reflected in progress reports)

The project is under implementation. The current progress has been registered:

LB’s technical design was elaborated in June 2017 and the works execution have been also awarded since September 2017. The building permit was granted in August 2018 by the Minister of Regional Development and Public Works. The construction works in Ruse started in September 2018 and their progress has reached 100% and were completed in May 2020. The official commencement and putting in use of the investment objective “Rehabilitation of the piers of the passenger terminal Ruse center and improving the navigation conditions of the three berths” was held on 02.03.2021.

B2 awarded the contract for technical design elaboration, works execution and technical assistance by the Designer at the end of May 2018. The works execution in Giurgiu is ongoing restarted since the beginning of October 2021 and about 81% of the works have been executed. Following the restarting of the investment execution in October 2021, the works were focused on the quay with concrete slab pear and the lifting ramp, which are used in the case of repairs carried out at the workshop within the port or for their preservation during the winter. Works on the access road to the port platform and preparatory works for the re-establishment of administrative buildings were also carried out.

The Joint Strategy for improving the Navigation Safety in the Lower Danube was also developed in a close consultation of the responsible authorities and stakeholders, and the two beneficiaries have undertaken efforts to ensure their official commitment for involvement in the Strategy implementation. The project beneficiaries decided to publish the Joint Strategy and related documents on the official websites of the Municipality of Ruse and Municipality of Giurgiu. Additionally, actions are foreseen to be taken for informing of the related stakeholders that took part in the development process in order to ensure, that the strategy and related documents are easily accessible for use.
