Tutrakan – Calarasi an Innovative Cultural Bridge for Sustainable Regional Development

What’s the goal?

To enhance the existing cultural potential which is undervalued and underutilized in order to strengthen the economy and increase the number of tourist visits and overnights by developing modern cultural attractions.

What’s the budget?

474,841.50 euro, out of which 403,615.26 euro, ERDF

Target at the half of the implementation period: 73,740 euro for LB and 45,537 euro for B2

How is it going to happen?

  • Development of information and VR exhibition spot Tutrakan Epic;
  • Improvement of tourist environment and VR exhibition spot – Calarasi;
  • Development of a Tourist strategy;
  • Creation of two integrated tourist products;
  • Creation of tourist information portal;
  • Publishing of catalogues and brochures related to the cultural sites and events.

What will be the results (what’s the contribution to the Programme)?

Programme outputs: Increase in expected number of visits to supported sites of cultural and natural heritage and attractions with 15,000; 2 integrated tourism products/services created, 1 common strategy, policy or management plan for valorising (including raising awareness) the cultural and natural heritage through its restoration and promotion for sustainable economic uses

Programme results: increase of the number of overnights in the cbc area with 15,000

Project status

The project is currently in the 34th month of implementation out of 41st months (the total of 41st of months includes also the 5 months suspension period):

B2-Lower Danube Museum Calarasi:

The first and the second children's workshops were already organized by B2. First in the period of 19-30 July 2021 with 26 participants, and the second in the period of 9-10 December 2021, and will be reported within the next reporting period / the final report;

The exhibition, "On a River Distance" have been presented during July 2021 in Calarasi, reaching 38 participants.

On 29.07.2021 was organized in Calarasi the launching conference with 38 participants;

During the period 27.07.2021 – 27.11.2021 the B2 carried out the simplified procedure for the supply of software with VR content and specialized equipment for the project "Heritage of GumelniČ›a Civilization viewed from a 3D and 2D perspective" and the contract was attributed on 15.02.2022.

LB – Historical Museum Tutrakan:

The joint strategy, ”Tourist strategy and at least 3 tourist packages targeted at different target groups, divided by age, interest and social position” is ready.

In the current period was purchased the remained equipment, namely 3 video cameras, of the Historical Museum Tutrakan;

The 2nd exhibition “Interbellum Urban Life” have been presented during July 2021 in Tutrakan, reaching 58 participants.

In the current period, six media have reported on the project activities and expected results in Bulgaria.

On 07.06.2021 took place an interview with the project coordinator and the director of the VR production and at least 50 000 people are reached during the interview. The interview can be found at the link: ;

The 360 VR movie/production has been developed and accepted by the LB according to the Delivery-Acceptance from 28.12.2021, the trailer of the production is available on web portal, while the full footage will be presented with special equipment purchased within the project at the two museums.
