Well-developed transportation system in the Euroregion Ruse-Giurgiu for better connectivity with TEN-T network

The overall objective of the project is to modernize and upgrade the road infrastructure in Ruse and Giurgiu representing direct connections to TEN-T.

How is it going to happen?

  • procurement of specific equipment;
  • services for technical project elaboration and technical assistance;

  • traffic safety measures;
  • joint strategy for optimization of the transport conditions in the CBC region;
  • common system for data base gathering and processing of traffic information;
  • information and promotional activities.

What will be the results (what’s the contribution to the Programme)?

Programme outputs: 11.23 km of roads reconstructed or upgraded;

Programme results: 2000 people benefiting by modernized infrastructure leading to TEN-T.

Project status

The project results achieved so far are related tosigned contracts with the experts of Ruse Municipality and Giurgiu Municipality, the set up of the project management teams and the purchase of the office equipment, necessary for performing of their daily tasks.

Both project beneficiaries have performed two Launching Conferences - in Ruse, BG and in Giurgiu, Ro. In addition, LB purchased a car, which will assure the transportation of the Giurgiu PMT by performing of actions, related to the project implementation.

The major project activities, actions and target groups of the project are tied related with the Construction modernization works in Giurgiu and Ruse (Construction works in Giurgiu - Bucuresti BD; Prieteniei RD; 1 Decembrie 98 RD and Mihai Viteazu Bld – 6.75 m and B2: Development of construction works in Ruse Municipality – bul. Lipnic - 4 480 m) and the core project actions implementation foreseen will start with the starting of execution of both investments. The status of implementation of the investment objectives is as follows:

LB -Giurgiu Municipality has signed the contract for design and engineering, including technical assistance from the designer during work execution and technical verification of the designer services. The elaborated Technical project was already delivered to LB and based on it, Giurgiu Municipality has posted in SEAP Participation Announcement related to the major procedure for construction in Giurgiu Municipality and as a result, there were two bidders presented. Following the performed evaluation, the LB signed an execution contract no. 59556/05.12.2019 with subject: „Works for improvement of the transport and technical characteristics of the Bucuresti Blvd., Prieteniei road, 1 decembrie 1918 street and Mihai Viteazu Blvd., Giurgiu”. Following the frames of the signed execution contract, the building authorization for the works was obtained and the Order for starting the execution of the works was given. Currently, the construction works in Giurgiu are ongoing.

B2 – Ruse Municipality signed the contract for the elaboration of the technical design, construction, and author supervision. Following the signed contract, the Technical design for Construction works in bul. “Lipnic” was officially delivered to B2 on 14.05.2019. Ruse Municipality has officially started the construction works on 28.06.2019 and the works are fully ongoing. The construction of the site is completed at 37%, so far.

In addition, Ruse Municipality has accepted a Common Strategy for the Optimization of Transport Conditions in Cross-border region Bulgaria-Romania 2020 – 2027, as a part from Activity T.1 “Implementation of traffic safety measures and of the joint strategy”. The Joint Strategy was prepared in three languages – BG, RO and EN.
