“Creating an innovative and integrated cross-border tourist product between “Vrachanski Balkan” and “Iron Gate” natural parks”


What’s the goal?

The overall objective of the project is to promote the joint sustainable and balanced economic development of the territories of both parks through diversification of tourism supply and development of tourism based on cultural and natural heritage as a factor for effective use and exploitation of common advantages and potentials and overcoming imbalances in the region.

How is it going to happen?

  • Creation of a strategy and developing a tourist product
  • Creation of a joint integrated innovative tourist product – Cross-Border destination for tourism, based on cultural and natural heritage and performed promotion of a common positive image of two natural parks through modern 3D technologies
  • Building up a Cross-Border network, uniting all the interested parties and a developed capacity for joint strategic planning, management and sustainable development of tourism, growth of the tourist visits and the revenues from tourism in the two parks
  • Repairs and preparations of premises for demonstration digital halls

What will be the results (what’s the contribution to the Programme)?

Programme outputs: One common strategy, policy or management plans for valorizing (including raising awareness) the cultural and natural heritage through its restoration and promotion for sustainable economic uses; One integrated tourism product/service; 15,000 expected number of visits to supported sites of cultural and natural heritage.

Programme results: 12,000 tourist overnights in the Cross-Border region.

Project status

The project is currently in the 26th month of implementation out of 41 months and 30 days. The implementation period was initially 35 months and 30 days, but was extended with 6 months via Addendum no. 1 from 20.10.2020.

On behalf of the Lead Beneficiary:

It was elaborated the Preliminary study for identification of the most attractive pilots sites for digitization in Vrachansk Balkan Natural Park. The study proposed 15 objects for digitization, including nature sites, cultural sites and eco trails in the park.

Until the present moment, the Lead Beneficiary continued the digitization of the territory of Vrachanski Balkan Natural Park, performing aerial photogrammetric surveying for about 25 %.

It was elaborated the initial draft of the Marketing strategy for development and implementation of tourism product together with an Action Plan.

Also, it was done the initial draft of the Strategy and Action Plan for digitization of the heritage in both parks. The respective documentations will be fully finalized with its introduction in front of the interested parties, namely, during the third seminar event.

On behalf of Beneficiary 2:

It was elaborated the Preliminary study for identification of the most attractive pilots sites for digitization in Iron Gates Natural Park in the middle of June 2021.

Also, until the present moment, the beneficiary purchased the equipment required for digitize the territories of the two parks and the pilot sites of natural and cultural heritage: Lidar system (Light Detection and Ranging), software for its functionality, RPAS system (Remotely-piloted aircraft system), software for its functionality and compatibility with photogrammetry camera.

The beneficiary performed and finalized the small repairs in Documentation and Information Center in Dubova for preparation of the premises for demonstration digital hall in 06.12.2019.

Financial Progress of the project:

In terms of decommitment, the deadline for the half implementation period of the project was 28.02.2021. The targets to be reached at half implementation period were as follows:

Lead Beneficiary: 60,000.00 euro;

Beneficiary 2: 60,000.00 euro.

Up until the half decommitment deadline, the situation for each beneficiary is:

Lead Beneficiary declared the cumulative amount of 117,574.52 euro, representing 195,96% from decommitment target;

Beneficiary 2 declared the cumulative amount of 107,601.49 euro, representing 179,34% from decommitment target.

Therefore, both beneficiaries avoided the reduction of their budget.

According to the information available in the system at the present moment, the progress of the project towards its financial objectives is:

1. From LB’s total partner budget of 220,087.78 euro, was requested for reimbursement the total amount of 144,074.99 euro, out of which FLC certified 144,074.66 euro, representing 65.46% from the partner budget;

2. From B2’s total partner budget of 199,291.66 euro, was requested for reimbursement the total amount of 107,601.49 euro, out of which FLC certified 103,290.52 euro, representing 51.83% from the partner budget.

Considering the amounts certified by FLC, the financial progress at project level is 58.98% from the total budget (247,365.18 euro of 419,379.44 euro).
