The Wrriten Treasures of Lower Danube
What’s the goal?
Overall project objective is encouraging joint conservation, protection, promotion and development of the written intangible cultural heritage of the RO–BG CBC region through diversification of tourist services and literary tourism development, as a major factor for using and exploiting common advantages and potentials, and overcoming discrepancies.
What’s the budget?
486 028.75 euro, out of which 413 124.43 euro ERDF
Target at the half of the implementation period: 9,000 euro for LB, 23,855 euro for B2 and 27,400 for B3.

How is it going to happen?
- A new integrated tourist product Lower Danube Cross-border Destination for Literary Tourism (Lower Danube CBDLT)
- Two pilot modern and innovative for the whole region literary tourist attractions will be created in the libraries in Ruse and Craiova, based on the newest digital technologies,
- At least 5 literature tourist packages and 5 tourist routes will be created in the cross-border region
- Two international literary festivals.
- An Integrated Development Strategy of Lower Danube CBDLT worked out with the active participation of all kind of stakeholders in the CBC region;
- A Three Year Action Plan for Management of the New Lower Danube CBDLT;
- A Strategic plan for Cross-border network of stakeholders development will be prepared
- An Innovative Marketing strategy for internationally promoting the new image of Lower Danube CBDLT.
What will be the results (what’s the contribution to the Programme)?
Programme outputs: Increase in expected number of visits to supported sites of cultural and natural heritage and attraction, 4 integrated tourism products/services created, 4 common strategies, policies or management plans for valorizing (including raising awareness) the cultural and natural heritage through its restoration and promotion for sustainable economic uses.
Programme results: increase of the number of overnights in the CBC area with 4.320.
Project status
The project was finalized. The following have been achieved within the project:

3. One Integrated Strategy for Sustainable Development of the Written Treasures of Lower Danube Cross-border Destination for Literary Tourism which can be found on the website: https://twtld.com/;
4. One Three Year Action Plan for Management of the New Lower Danube Cross Border Destination of Literary Tourism – the action plan is included within the part of Integrated Strategy for Sustainable Development of the Written Treasures of Lower Danube Cross-border Destination for Literary Tourism;

7. Two literary festivals designed for students, teachers, researchers, writers, translators, publishers, literary critics, librarians, book distributors, cultural managers and journalists took place in Craiova (in the period 26-29.08.2021) and Ruse (in the period 07-10.10.2021). The festivals were the final and the most visible events and helped to increase the tourist number in the cross-border region.
