Well connected nodes Giurgiu - Borovo to TEN-T transport network

What will be the results (what’s the contribution to the Programme)?

Programme outputsModernized transport infrastructure providing access to the TEN-T network (Total length of reconstructed or upgraded roads 11,75 km.);

Programme results: Cross border population served by modernized infrastructure leading to TEN-T – more than 20.877 inhabitants.

Project status

The project is under implementation. The following results were reported so far:

LB has started the activities for launching the procurement procedures for elaboration of technical project and execution of works for DJ 601, estimating the launching of the procurement in November 2021. LB also acquired a car to for the necessity deriving form the project implementation.

B2 concluded a contract regarding the elaboration of the study „New opportunities for traffic management and traffic safety measures in Giurgiu-Borovo area”. The study is finalized. The study examined the state of transport infrastructure in the cross-border region, identified affected areas, made a SWOT analysis of the current situation, a risk analysis related to optimizing transport conditions in the cross-border region Borovo - Giurgiu, review of applicable regulations in Bulgaria and Romania defining the institutional responsibilities of the authorities regarding transport conditions and traffic safety and analysed their role in the whole process.

The interactive map and the smartphone application “Borovo Blackspots”, are available for free download and installation (Google Play and App store). The interactive map is available at https://w-ten.info. The application allows a user to report a new accident and it promotes important touristic objectives and rules of traffic safety.

The map is available in Bulgarian, English and Romanian, marking the locations of the black spots (https://w-ten.info/?ait-items=blackspot-locations&lang=en).

The traffic management plan is finalized, by the B2. The traffic monitoring equipment is installed and the information system is being prepared.

B2 has purchased:

1. an automatic station for monitoring of the weather ACCMO – BRESSER, NG “7 in 1” – 1 piece;

2. an automatic stations for traffic monitoring - 4 cameras;

3. Server – 1 piece;

4. UPS – 1 piece.

The 4 cameras (automatic station for traffic monitoring) are installed on 4 locations within the town of Borovo. The meteorological station is installed on the roof of the building of Borovo Municipality.

As far as the investment works on behalf of B2 are concerned, on 7th of April 2021 a protocol for the opening of the construction site was signed and the construction works started. The construction activities are in the process of implementation. The physical stage of the works is 60% and currently, the works schedule is followed.
