“Improving safety of navigability on Danube river in the Calarasi – Silistra cross – border region”, eMS 478

What’s the goal?

The project objective is to improve the infrastructure on the both sides of the Danube river in order to maintain the navigability on the Danube, especially during the summer when the water falls below the level, but during the winter as well. It will improve a transport waterway, between Calarasi county and Silistra Municipality by installing of beacons on 5 km inland waterway on the Borcea – secondary arm of Danube. It will be also created two river station, one for each side of the Danube and two boats of medium size will be purchase for passengers transportation. The project aims to improve the quality of navigability on the Danube River and on the Borcea branch. In the present, due to the lack of specific signaling of the waterways, many boats and ships remain blocked on the Danube, being very difficult to fit on the navigable segment.

What’s the budget?

5,946,041.76 euro, out of which 5.054.135.48 euro ERDF

Target at the half of the implementation period: 25.718,00 euro for LB, 7.313,00 euro for B2 and 9.000,00 euro for B3.

How is it going to happen?

  • Strategies and action plans to improve the safety of the navigation on the Danube;
  • Works in Calarasi County – to facilitate the direct access of the boat owners from one community to another, offering an open area of ​​navigation on the inside Borcea arm;
  • Works in Silistra District – rehabilitation of Riverside fortification walls;
  • Promotional activities focus on providing project information, transparency and effective communication with stakeholders, as well as presenting the results of project activities and target groups and local stakeholders working in the cross-border region.

What will be the results (what’s the contribution to the Programme)?

Programme outputs: Total length of new and improved inland waterway – 11 km;

Programme results: 2.34 % of the RO-BG CBC Danube length and Black Sea where safety of the navigation have been improved.

Project status

The project is at the end of the 3rd month of implementation out of 36 months. There are no delays registered within the activities` implementation, which could affect the proper implementation of the project. Project preparation costs in amount of 20,034. 93 euro on behalf of LB were already certified by the FLC, following to be requested for reimbursement.

Currently the B3 – TAU – Calarasi Town intends to modify its project implementation team. In this reference, the Lead beneficiary needs to initiate a Modification Request in the e-MS, according to PIM provisions. Although B3 has officially requested to LB to initiate such a modification, the request is still not submitted in e-MS.
